The Russian Language
Russian is the most widely spoken Slavic language in the world with an estimated 300 million speakers worldwide. One of the six official languages of the United Nations and the International Space Program, Russian is spoken not only in Russia but also in Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Latvia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Estonia. Although considered difficult to learn when compared to English, learning Russian opens up a world of possible travel to distant places considered out of reach by average Americans. Learning Russian also gives one access to great works of literature, culture, film and art.
