The honorable Mr. Dmitry Azarov was born in the city of Kuibishev (Samara) in 1970 into a family that worked for the military. He graduated from Samara State University and after the graduation he worked as an engineer and later moved into a management position as deputy financial director of the KVO&T plant in Samara. He then persuaded a second degree in Economics in 1996 which then led to the equivalent of a doctoral degree in 2003. In 1998 he moved to another deputy director position at the Sintezkauchuk Factory, during his tenure he helped the factory out of bankruptcy and saved the jobs of eight thousand employees. He has worked in the gas industry of the Samara region including Volgapromkhom and Srednevolzhskaya Gas and Transport Company. During his tenure at the latter as general director he made the factory a leader in the in the natural resources industry and was awarded the medal “Slava Rossii” (Russian Pride).
He became deputy mayor of Samara in 2006 where he was able to double the budget revenues and helped to pay off the municipal debt of the city. In 2008 he began work with the Oblast government and in 2010 he was elected as Mayor of Samara with a 66% margin. He was sworn in as mayor on October 15, 2011. Mr Azarov is married and has two daughters.
